This was Re-opening weekend on the Strasburg Railroad, and to start out they Used Norfolk and Western 475 for the first time this year on regular runs. 475 Put on quit a Show, with Beautiful weather, and Heat in the High 80s.
First we get the 11:00 train, and then we get the next 2 at 12:30 & 2:00. The Locations we did were Carpenters, Cherry Hill, Esbanshade, and Bylers! 475 put on A great show, and I will be back Hopefully this weekend.
N&W 475- is a 4-8-0 "M" Class Locomotive built by Baldwin in 1906, and used on the Norfolk and Western Railroad Hauling freight and Coal trains, until her retirement in 1956. It 1957 and 1958, she was made to look like a 19th century Steam Locomotive, with a fake Diamond Stack and a Gas Headlight and pulled the "Salem Shifter", and later sold to scrap in Virginia, when 475 was saved and was later brought to the Illinois Railroad Museum, and later Boone Scenic Railroad in the 1980s. Then finally Strasburg Railroad purchased 475 in 1991, and was Restored in 1993 to operate. Ever since then she has been Operating in Strasburg. In 2019, the Headlight was moved to the Center of the boiler front, with a Nice look!
