Western Maryland 1309: The Sounds of the New York Central
This Time on Tristan Rail Productions we take you to Cumberland, Maryland Again for a Brief visit to the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad to see (Ex. Chesapeake & Ohio) Western Maryland 2-6-6-2 Mallet No.1309! We take the Advantage to see 1309 pulling the Frostburg Flyer with a unique not very often used whistle, A New York Central 6-chime that is believed to come off of a New York Central Mohawk Steam Locomotive! it was a beautiful sounding whistle as it echoed through Allegheny County on her Trek and climb to Frostburg through the Mountains.

(Former C&O) Western Maryland 1309:
A 2-6-6-2 "H-6" Class Mallet Built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1949, and Operated on the Chesapeake and Ohio Hauling Heavy Loads of Coal Trains in the States of West Virginia and Kentucky. 1309 worked Hard and was Heavily Used, doing So Until it was Retired in 1956. It was Stored at a C&O Roundhouse In WV, for 20 Years and Sat, and In 1970s She was purchased and brought to the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Museum in Baltimore MD, where 1309 was Cosmetically restored for Display. In 2014 The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad Purchased it after many attempts, and Brought her from the B&O Museum to Cumberland MD by Rail, on a Flatbed Car. After Arriving at WMRR, Work Began on the 1309, and While Restoring the 1309 many Setbacks and Eventful Things steped in the Way of the Restoration, with funding Low, and Money Low, there was no Telling what was gonna Happen.That Still never Stopped Getting 1309 back on the Rails. 1309 was purchased to Replace 2-8-0 Western Maryland No.734 after being taken out of service for its FRA 1,472. The Project almost Haulted in 2017, with major Issues. After Many Large Funding and Help from the State and the County, the Project Continued. A Boiler Test Fire Happened in 2018. in 2019 the Project Haulted Once again, but With Funding that came in it Continued again. In Late December of 2020, No.1309 Operated under her Own Power for the First time in 64 Years! Now with Many Shakedown runs and Successful Test runs on the Line In November and December of 2021, No.1309 is Finally Completed and is Ready to Operate for Years to Come!
