Gondor Gambolling 69: In which Gryfflet rides for ruin, wrath and the day's ending

Gryfflet has been keeping Éomer company at the exit from Taur Drúadan, ready to ride forth to join in the Battle of Pelennor Field. He is very happy to discover upon arrival that events are suspended while he explores the area and examines the map, but eventually even he cannot resist getting on with it. Théoden gives his rousing speech and we arrive on the Field of Onslaught. Gryfflet meets up with Prince Imrahil who is happy to see the Rohirrim arrive and tasks us with mopping up stragglers from the enemy ranks. The Riders Three are awaiting our arrival on a nearby hillock and they want us to slaughter even more foes. Lastly we meet up with Bregdal again who wants us to find and defeat the Black Serpent, a Haradrim chieftain who is causing particular problems. Gryfflet defeats a sufficient number of Orcs and decides to try his luck with the Black Serpent, even though this normally requires three players: he decides to try scaling down the strength of the enemy to allow a solo attempt. Once he works out how to provoke the first boss into noticing him, things get a bit sticky, but after some adjustment he wins through to fight the Black Serpent and his two sons. As we hoped, Théoden arrives at the last moment to defeat the Serpent himself. Gryfflet reports his success to Bregdal who gives him the next task in the sequence, which will have to wait until the next session as we have run out of time.
"I'm getting trapped by invisible boundaries, oh dear!"
"Oh, making the whole army turn around, don't mean to do that!"
"Break the horn! Yes!"
"I'm contributing!"
"Can I get there from here?"
"You have a named dog? That makes me feel a bit guilty!"
"Are we declaring a truce? He's just confused!"
"Did I eat something? No, should I?"
"I'm not going to say it's for the last time, although it probably is!"
We discussed how the game built the lore to support our engagement but mostly we just enjoyed the story.
