It’s been a while since I checked in and gave you an update about how much I make on Youtube. A couple of months ago, I released a video called “My First Youtube Paycheck” where I divulged my numbers as a newly monetized Youtuber. But now that I’m six months into the game, I thought it would be worthwhile to share how much money I make with 40,000–50,000 subscribers.

Now, in my 11-month journey as a Youtuber, I’ve hit the algorithm a few times which directly correlates to how much money I make. In the lows, I make about $1300-$1600. But in the highs, I can make about $4000. In the last 3 months I’ve ridden the algorithm train twice, resulting in two very large Youtube paychecks (well large for me).

I’ll also be breaking down exactly how creators get paid on Youtube. The two metrics you’ll want to consider when measuring your Youtube analytics is your CPM (cost per thousand) and RPM (revenue per thousand). Your CPM is going to vary depending on your genre. Typically, the personal finance genre brings in a much higher CPM than most other niches. Whereas gaming and pranking channels tend to rank on the low end of CPMs.

Since I am both a tiny house and semi-finance drive channel, my CPM tends to fall within the $21-$24 range. Now while that’s a pretty chunky CPM, keep in mind that Youtube takes about a 40% chunk of that CPM. RPM is that final take-home “pay” or our “cut” if you will.
