Round Screw-on Filters or Square Drop-in Filters?

I started my landscape photography with round screw-on filters. I bought a couple neutral density filters and polarizing filters. I didn't have much complaints about them. Recently I started trying out square drop-in filters from Nisi. I bought the V5 pro kit and 6 stop ND filter as well 10 stop ND filters and a polarizing filter, all from Nisi. Today in this video, I am going to compare round screw-on filters from Hoya and B+W and square filters from Nisi.

I found the Hoya ND filters have a slight blue tint and vignetting around the corners. The Nisi ND filters have a slight magenta tint but it doesn't create vignetting. Also I found stacking two round screw-on ND filters together could create heavy vignetting while stacking two Nisi square filters are perfectly fine.

I also found using a round screw-on ND filter + round screw-on a polarizing filter could be difficult to set up. If I put on the ND filter first, then I can't see the effect of the polarizing effect. If I put on the polarizing filter first, then it is really easy to turn the polarizing filter when I screw on the ND filter. However, it is not a problem with Nisi square filters system at all since the two filters don't touch each other.

I think the advantage of those round screw-on filters is the size. They are small, easy to carry with, don't take a lot of space in the camera bag. They are also easier to set up. But the disadvantage is heavy vignetting when stacking filters, and difficult to set up with ND filter and polarizing filter together.

The advantage of square drop-in filters is they are free of vignetting when stacking multiple ND filters and it is much easier to use a ND filter and a polarizing filter at the same time.
