SUPERCUB: 2019 Honda Super Cub C125 - OEM rear carrier install
I received my Honda rear carrier/rack (Honda P/N: 08L70-K0G-920) and installed it on my 2019 Honda Super Cub today. I did NOT have a good experience with this OEM rack. Skip to the end of the description for clickable time indexes.
The rack that I received was welded VERY poorly, and the left-rear mounting tab was at least 0.375" (9.5mm) too narrow and tilted/angled inward at the leading/forward edge. It would not fit the bike as it came out of the box, and it required significant modification before it would even clear the fender width. This piece is certainly not manufactured to Honda's typical quality standards, and I DO NOT recommend it to anyone. I would recommend searching for an aftermarket piece instead.
During the test fitting and all of the trial and error, the rack scratched my rear fender badly. Most of the scratches and stripped paint are covered by the left-rear bracket, but I know that they exist and it disappoints me. A new rear fender lists for over $370! Ouch.
Time indexes:
0:28 : The Honda diagrams are good, but the instructions are lacking in details (e.g. bolt torque info)
1:25 : Use a 14mm socket and a plastic sandwich bag to prevent marring the chrome on the shock nuts
2:00 : The top shock nuts were loose enough that I probably could have twisted them off with my teeth. ;-)
5:20 : Removing the shocks to take out the top inner washer/spacers... you don't need to completely remove the shock, just the top eye
7:28 : Note that there is a different thickness in the top and bottom shock spacers/washers
9:40 : Houston, we have a problem... everything goes off the rails from this point forward
10:20 : Trying to use blue painter's tape to protect the finish on the rear fender
12:00 : The left-rear bracket is already scratching and cutting paint... let the cursing and anger-infused part modification begin...
18:20 : RE-READING the instructions to be sure that I'm not crazy... "...loosely install the parts..." with what, a wrecking ball?!
21:10 : Fitment recap... BE CAREFUL when test fitting and installing the Honda OEM rack!
24:30 : Re-torquing the rear shock nuts, using the plastic bag buffer for the chrome nuts again
