Levon Helm (1940-2012)
Levon Helm passed away on Thursday, the 19th of April, 2012. He was 71. For me, he was at the heart of everything I love about music. As an integral part of The Band, Levon helped to return music to its roots and essences at a time when that was needed. The later albums that he released under his own name are testaments to his embrace of all that's good in American music, as well as being a triumph of spirit over physical adversity. This video - which includes a song from 'Electric Dirt' (When I Go Away) and 'Dirt Farmer' (Wide River To Cross) - is a loving tribute to his life and music. My appreciation to the many photographers whose pictures I borrowed for this project. Thank you, Levon, for all you gave us.
