Blue Nile 5 Ct. Lab Grown Diamond Tennis Bracelet Review

Today’s video is a review of my Blue Nile Diamond Tennis bracelet. It has a total carat weight of 5, which includes 49 Round Diamonds with a color I and clarity “I1” and set in an elegant two-prong setting. It has beautiful shine, with the bracelet made of 14K White Gold with a Rhodium finish. Its length 7 inches and it has a box clasp.

On Blue Nile’s site, you can filter lab grown diamonds based on criteria such as shape, price, carat, color, clarity, and cut.

For comparison purposes, a lab-created 1.08 Ct. round diamond runs $1,390 on their site. A natural grown diamond of the same parameters would be $3,350. The natural diamond is 2.4x the price of a lab grown! This is just one example, of course based on other factors the price will vary, but still it gives you an idea.

What are some differences between lab and natural grown diamonds? Natural diamonds have tiny amounts of nitrogen, while lab grown diamonds have no nitrogen.

There are 2 popular methods of creating lab grown diamonds. The first is through Chemical Vapor Deposition, or CVD. A seed crystal is placed in a chamber, filled with gases, then heated. Layers of carbon begin to form on the seed crystal which grows into a diamond crystal.

The second method is High Pressure High Temperature, replicating the earth’s process. Graphite is placed in a machine where it is in turn crushed with extreme pressure and temperatures. The graphite turns into a diamond.

Lab diamonds are NOT cubic zirconia! This is because lab diamonds share the same physical and chemical properties as their mined counterparts, while cubic zirconias have a completely different mineral structure all together.

You may have heard of moissanite, which is a gemstone originally discovered in a meteor crater. In fact, the naturally occurring mineral moissanite is extremely rare, so most moissanite you see today is artificially created. They are also softer than diamonds and require more maintenance.

Why Blue Nile? It was founded in 1999 and structured as an online business model, making it possible to shop for high quality diamonds at a great value. They only purchase ethically sourced diamonds, vetting suppliers who follow and enforce the standards established by the Kimberly Process. They have a huge inventory of diamonds; over 150k+ loose diamonds. They also offer Diamond Certification, secure delivery, free 30-day returns, and lifetime guarantees.
