Most people think misdiagnoses are quite distant from us and do not happen often. However, Anna Wei, our TEDx speaker tells us why that is not the case if you are a woman. A medical misdiagnosis that specifically targets women is caused by gender bias, something that has been around all our lives. In the US, 12 million people are misdiagnosed each year, with women being 20-30% more likely to receive a misdiagnosis. Anna Wei, through exploring different case studies, allows people to discover how medical misdiagnoses in women are an underreported problem, and how can we fix this. Anna Wei is a G10 student at BASIS International School Hangzhou. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
