The Execution Of John Fisher - Henry VIII's Rebel Bishop

Inside of the reign of King Henry VIII, there were many people who were close to the King who went to the execution scaffolds across England. Henry VIII even turned on his closest friends with Thomas More and Thomas Cromwell both losing their heads on Tower Hill in front of huge crowds. But one man who was executed shortly after More was, was Bishop John Fisher a man who had many principles and a man who died for what he believed in. He’s considered today a saint in the Catholic Church and he would not accept the King’s changes to the church and he could not accept Henry VIII’s second wife. He was seen by the King as a troublemaker, and with this on the 22nd June 1535, the 65 year old Bishop was led to the executioner’s axe on Tower Hill and the moving scene of the elderly learned man walking towards his death was heartbreaking for many. But he faced death bravely, and today he is remembered as a victim of King Henry VIII.
