Tom Hamilton is the one and only bassist of Aerosmith
(fingers)
In the verse live, he often plays his own rhythm, different than the track, even back in the 80s where he'd pretty much just hold the note and then hit the changes. Live, he *almost* always plays the solo section down by 2 and 4 on the E. There was on clip I saw him slide up, but even in the 80's he'd play it there.
So, In the verse, he sometimes hits the 16th notes, in the solo, the track has it an octave higher than he likes to play it live, and then when Steven Tyler is doing the vocal stuff at the end, Tom Hamilton doesn't play anything
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gpv5bR1i3Cg
0:58, you can see the positioning of the left hand around frets 5 and 7, and not 0 and 2
2:39, in the solo Tom is high up on the neck, clearly not in the position of 4 on the D. It sounds like he's playing 8th notes, just accenting the off beat, like he does in most of this performance
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYL7PGQLuhI
0:33, in the intro, he's obviously by fret 2, not using a 5th string here
1:26 right about the Pre Chorus he's again at fret 2, does a slide (that isn't on the track, but fun live), and then is on the 2 in the chorus, and then slides up to 5 on the chorus (not open D)
then it looks like he plays open A in the chorus instead of 5 on E. The riff at the end of the chorus, both times he hits an open strin in the 2nd note (38 is 3-0, then 39 is 5-0
man, this video keeps a good eye on tom. In the verse, it shows 5 and 7 (confirming the first video). Can't really tell the specific that I was looking for in the verse, but it's good it confirms the position
for the solo, the positioning is different than the above video, but he sounds like he's playing 2 on the E, not 4 on the D
Overall it's a pretty simple song for the bass. I tend to go down rabbit holes while tabbing trying to figure out a relatively small detail that's hard to hear one way or the other. If it's that hard to hear, it probably doesn't matter as long as it sounds good, but I still want it to be right.

1:12 in the verse, great shot of tom Hamilton. There, beats 1,2,and 3 are 8th notes on the 7, then beat 4 is a 16th on 7 and a dotted 8th on the 5.
If only it lined up with what was on the track :(
2:32 ish is the solo, you can hear him real well and he's down low on 2 on the E
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnB1LXIgN0o
3:01 - solo, based off 2 on the E and you can see it this time. other than that, there's an audio/visual delay, and the one part I wanted to see wasn't synched
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAaFtDZ2sYQ
4:45 (right after the solo that he plays the same way as above) you can see the verse and his overall rhythm is different, but he hits the 16th note right before the dotted 8th every time
Thanks for watching! Enjoy :)
