How To: Make Upcycled DIY Scratch-Off Cards for your Valentine - The Body Shop

The best gifts are the most thoughtful, so why not give your Valentine a gift they’ll truly love by making your own DIY Scratch-off cards?
Here’s what you’ll need:
- The Body Shop Strawberry Shower Gel (or any other flavour you love!)
- Some scrap card – we used The Body Shop Amazonian Acai Energising Radiance Mask box
- A paint brush or a foam roller brush
- Acrylic paint – this can be any colour you like
- Coloured card
- Black pen
- Clear contact paper
- Hole Punch
- Ribbon
Here’s your ‘How-to Guide’ for creating the most imaginative and thoughtful card ever!
- First of all, prepare your scratch hearts. Do this by mixing a few drops of shower gel (you only need a drop or two!) to a tablespoon of paint.
- Use sticky backed plastic contact – you’ll need about 20cm square.
- Mix your paint well - and with a roller or a paint brush, start painting the contact. The first coat will be very light and streaky! Let it dry completely before adding another layer.
- Keep building – it may take at least three or four layers to get the contact paper completely opaque.
- While that’s drying, cut your mask jar box into squares by cutting along the folds. Keep the squares that are blank on the coloured side.
- On the reverse side, stick some plain card. Here’s where you’ll write your question.
- Make a couple of love heart stencils. You’ll want one large enough to cover the card, then a couple of smaller ones for a ‘multi-choice’ answer.
- On the gold side, write your question such as: What’s for dinner? Scratch to Win! I owe you.
- Now on the coloured side of your card, write your answer! Make sure each message will fit underneath a heart. You may like to trace the heart shape first to be sure.
- now cut heart shapes from the contact paper. Use your heart stencil for this.
- Carefully peel off the backing and stick a heart over each of your answer messages on the coloured card.
- Use a hole punch to make a hole for a ribbon in the left hand corner of each card. Tie together and attach to your gift!
The best part about these cards is it comes with a double surprise – thanks to our fragrant shower gel these lovely cards are also scratch and sniff!
