PSPCS Picks Up By Wingett's Vintage Camera Collection
This video documents the meticulous process of packing up my dad’s extensive vintage camera collection by eight officials from the Puget Sound Photographic Collectors Society (PSPCS): http://www.pspcs.org.
Background info:
My father, Byron Wingett (By), age of 94 next November, told me years ago that he wanted me to have his vintage camera collection. My younger sister would get his radio collection. Cool! I was okay with that. Like my Dad, my career began as a photographer, at least for the first 6 years. Then came the digital photography revolution and the internet. My career path gradually transformed into graphic design and then multimedia technologies. Anyway, back to my camera collection inheritance. I was both honored and at the same time overwhelmed! I have never had enough space in any of my homes to display or to store such an extensive collection. And if I were to downsize the collection, which cameras should I sell and keep? After experimenting with selling a few of my Dad’s cameras on eBay, it became clear to me that selling these cameras and accessories individually would require a HUGE amount of effort over many years. So, I began researching options. Should I build an addition to my house? Who would buy my Dad’s collection in its entirety? How about donating the entire collection to a museum?
Then, in 2017 I retired and moved to Washington State. In March of 2019, I decided to record a video of my Dad’s camera collection and post it on my YouTube channel to see if that drummed up any interest. There were a fair amount of views and likes, but no potential buyers. Thus, I continued my research.
Bingo! One day, a Google search led me to a Seattle-based vintage camera club: the Puget Sound Photographic Collectors Society (PSPCS): http://www.pspcs.org. I reached out with an email to the PSPCS Vice President, Walt, who happed to be a former photo-lab coworker and friend of mine. And that got the ball rolling! This is the first of two videos documenting the appraisal and the packing process by PSPCS. Thank you, my friends, for providing my Dad and I with this professional service and sharing your passion for vintage photographica. This was a wonderful experience for both myself and my Dad!
