FUNNY BARN OWL BLOOPERS
Filming wildlife has its challenges and one of the most common ones is when the animals take charge of the camera. This gets even more bizarre if the animal takes its own selfies which is what happens here! Watch as this barn owl knocks over my DJI Pocket 2 camera then peers in for a close up.
FILMING BARN OWLS AT NIGHT
I placed a DJI Pocket Camera 2 onto my feeding post in order to film owls landing here. But just as I was capturing some stunning footage of white-winged barn owls glowing against a night sky - a dusting of snow on the feeding post mirroring their gleaming white wings - things started to go wrong.
BARN OWL LANDS ON THE DJI POCKET 2 CAMERA
One of the barn owls, whose nickname is Ghost, decided my camera would make a good perch - and managed to readjust the angle of the camera as it landed. That was definitely not the angle I was after!!
BARN OWL SELFIE
Watch as Ghost the barn owl topples, then peers into the lens as he struggles to balance on the tripod, taking the perfect selfie.
FILMING RESUMES WHEN A SECOND BARN OWL APPEARS
Then a second barn owl swoops into frame and the two owls face up to one another. Ghost leaps off his DJI Pocket 2 perch to meet his rival on the feeding post. By now my tripod has been bent out of position, but thankfully the interaction is caught on CCTV cameras covering all the wildlife in my North Yorkshire garden.
BEAUTIFUL FOOTAGE OF BARN OWLS IN FLIGHT
Watch this film to the end to see the stunning footage of the two barn owls as they momentarily clash on the snow covered tree stump, their wings glistening against the night sky, before they both fly off into the dark. This fabulous clip makes those inevitable moments when a barn owl tampers with my camera worth every moment.
IDENTIFYING THE BARN OWLS OF FOTHERDALE
Fans of my channel will know many of the barn owls that live here and will already be familiar with Ghost. The second barn owl, seen here chasing Ghost away, is Finn, the main resident male barn owl here at Fotherdale. You'll also get a brief glimpse of Howard as he tries to land but is soon seen off by Finn.
