S01E11 Te Araroa | Days 39-44: Mangaokewa North Rd to Ongarue

After a rough 24 hours since departing Te Kuiti, I find myself needing to hike almost 40km to the next stop at Ngaharenga Campsite at the start of the Timber Trail. Having had no cellphone reception, I'm in a pickle as I haven't gotten a list of lunch supplies to Dad for my Timber Trail food drop. To reset my mind (and body) I take another couple of days off trail before eventually embarking on this popular section of TA.

Deciding to push 41km on Day 1 of the Timber Trail, I eventually end up taking a zero at Camp Epic. My anxiety and depression at so much solo hiking in the past couple of weeks has finally caught up with me, and I'm rewarded for my patience later in the day when I'm caught up by a group of hikers, including Paul and his son Grant! The decision is made to cycle the remaining 42km of the Timber Trail the following day, in the pouring rain, and we find ourselves having a blast in the process.
