The Panerai Radomir Guido Panerai & Figlio is a reinterpretation of the vintage ref.3646 with solid lugs, and here's the interesting part. It runs on a period correct Angelus 240 movement, dug out from the archives and repurposed for this auction.

The Angelus 240 was adopted by Panerai for its impressive 8-day power reserve and this version of the cal.240 was specially produced on the request of Guido Panerai e Figlio. The cal.240 non-alarm, with crown-winding variant ceased production in 1942.

Angelus was a significant movement maker that also produced travel clocks and watches, tracing its roots to 1891 in Le Loc, reputed for making complication movements like repeaters and chronographs.

The original wire lugs on the Ref.3646 was modified to welded solid-lugs for the Italian, then Egyptian Navy in the 1960s. It is a little known and mentioned model that is historically significant.

We applaud such projects because because it sheds light on not just a significant part of Panerai's history, but also the existence and history of an important manufacture called Angelus.

All proceeds from the auction, including Buyer's premium, will be donated to the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO.
