Behind The Craft : Aaron Dykstra, Maker Mart

Aaron Dykstra always had a passion for craftsmanship. Whether he was working on jet engines during his time with the Air Force or building custom bicycle frames through his business, 611 Bicycle Co, Aaron found satisfaction in working with his hands at an early age.

But after building high-end custom bicycles for years, his love for creating inspired him to pass on his passion to a younger generation. Through his non-profit, The Making Foundation, Aaron bought an abandoned grocery store in Roanoke, Virginia to use as his unconventional classroom. Since then, he has carried out his mission by teaching students ages 8-18 the skills to become craftsmen and women who take pride in their creations.
