Jane Seymour Reason For Marriage: Blessing or a Curse?
Jane Seymour reason for marriage is not what you think! Jane entered court and gained favour from Henry VIII who's life was in turmoil. His reason to get involved with Jane was in the hope of gaining a son, yet was this a blessing or a curse for Jane? Jane Seymour was Henrys third marriage, but quite possibly she was the one woman who Henry truly loved. Her demeanour throughout her life seemed to have a settling affect over the king, he seemed enamoured of her in a way he wasn't with either previous or the wives yet to come.
Jane Seymour also played a part in Marys succession and her fathers affections, along with her influence to to help advance her own families fortunes. Jane had many qualities that appealed to the ageing King, for she was gentle, sweet-natured and subservient. Her lack of need or greed perhaps hit a nerve with the Henry, he respected her in a way different from others. One thing is pretty much certain, if Jane had lived the whole of Tudor history may have been a lot different to the one we see today.
Years after her death, even while he was married to other women, Jane continued to appear in royal portraits as Queen consort. Her special status as Mother to the heir was never forgotten.
