The Tortured Life of a Queen Jeanne d'Albret

The Tortured Life of a Queen Jeanne d'Albret. As a girl on 13 June 1541, she was forced into a marriage with William "the Rich", Duke of Jülich-Cleves-Berg, when she was only 12 years old. The marriage would be annulled four years later. She was then married to Antoine de Bourbon, also known as the "first prince of the blood". Jeanne strived to make her life work but would face uphill battles all the way through. Jeanne was a powerful woman, her eyes were said to be cold and her lips thin, she had a fierce reputation. She lived through the French Wars of Religion and became Queen of Navarre. Jeanne died on 4 June 1572, although conspiracy theories abounded about how she died!
