Extra Woodshed Storage with Cantilevers

I've been hoarding lots of larger branches from the normal firewood hauls; they're good for when the fire is just starting up and they burn just fine for outdoor firepits. The problem is that I collected too much and just started throwing the pieces on the floor of the old woodshed; not ideal.

I decided to build some out-of-the-way storage for the new woodshed that would keep good airflow to dry the pieces and organize the smaller pieces into one convenient place. I used the even spacing of the woodshed slats to make some movable cantilevers; this allows expansion or reduction as I dwindle down on the smaller firewood pieces and allows me to move things out of the way in the future if I decide to keep using this solution.

I wanted something that is easy to install and easy to remove, so designing a pattern such that I could wedge the pieces in and have them self supporting (via knobs/hooks that are built into the piece) was the simplest solution.

There are two problems with this design. The first problem is that eventually the tabs/knobs/hooks may eventually split or break off. Second, cutting the original 2x4's in half to double the amount of cantilevers lefts the final pieces with a tendency to roll in place. In the future, this should be able to be mitigated if I use larger pieces (2x6's instead of 2x4's) and choose not to split them in half which will keep them more rigid when lodged in place.

Overall though, these have worked out well and show no sign of failing. Having six cantilevers helps disperse the weight evenly and so no single cantilever has a heavy load to carry.
