USB Outlet Lamp DIY Build

The entryway table in my house is kind of the central hub in the morning and again after work. It's a good place to charge the phones so they're easy to grab on the way back out or passing through. This is my solution for having many devices of many flavors of charging needs that come and go. A simple box-jointed base with some storage to the side for various cables.

The main idea was to create a lamp that sort of did some bent lamination-type process just to get a little familiar with it for upcoming projects. Though no lamination was actually done, there was plenty of successful bending.

As with anything electrical, do your homework before diving in. I went above and beyond the necessary gauge for the power cord (12AWG). I highly doubt that outlet would pump through much amperage to warrant that, but better safe than sorry. The wiring scheme is pretty easy, here is the basic idea:

All told, it's not perfect. The bent lamp support could be thicker to prevent it from being so wobbly when you fuss with the light to turn it on or off. The barrel hinges were a hassle to install and I bet they won't hold up over time.
