Torsades de Pointes, “twisting of points”, is a serious electrocardiogram ECG or EKG cardiac dysrhythmia where the ventricles in the heart contract erratically, typically leading to V Tach (ventricular tachycardia) and then to sudden cardiac death. The treatment of choice is usually IV administration of magnesium sulfate, which calms the ventricles and helps to stabilize the heart rhythm.
