Marathon Series with Tom Hamilton - the 80/20 Rule

Tom Hamilton is the Principal Physiotherapist at The Healthy Body Company, Mount Annan.
Like a few of our team, he is also a very keen runner, and is currently training for a marathon.
Tom is going to take you on a 16 week journey as he prepares for the Gold Coast Marathon this June.

Today in Part 1, he talks about the 80/20 rule:
"Welcome to my 16 week marathon prep. My aim is to do the Gold Coast marathon in under three hours.

Each week I'll be sharing some tips with you. Today's tip is the 8020 rule.

8020 rule means that 80% of our training is done easy in our aerobic system, and 20% hard in our anaerobic system. This allows us to build a base for all our energy systems which we run, which is the aerobic system. It helps decrease the risk of injury and helps increase performance.

Today for me, my run was a half marathon a little bit quicker than marathon pace. That was four minute and three second kilometres for me in about an hour 25 and a bit so so far, training is looking good fitness is looking good."
