Guinea Fowl Advantages Vs Chickens And Why We Prefer Guineas
We have both Guinea Fowl and chickens but we prefer Guineas because they are multi purpose birds compared to chickens. Guineas have many advantages over chickens. This video compares the two.
Both chickens and guineas are good for meat and eggs. But this is where the similarities end.
Chickens can free range but they prefer your gardens and flower beds even if presented with acres of land. Chickens will constantly try to find ways to tear up your mulch, gardens and plants. Let a flock of chickens into your garden and it will be destroyed in minutes. Chickens can fly and will do so if they find that your gardens look tastier than the rest of your yard.
But guineas will just march on through looking for bugs to eat instead. They will walk around a fence or object and prefer not to fly if they do not have to. We accidentally leave the garden fence open sometimes and the guineas get in. They just walk on through without harming much.
Guineas are the ultimate watch dog and alarm system on feet. They will honk loudly and let you know if a predator or intruder is around. They will honk at strangers as well as a hawk flying overheat. This can save the lives of your chickens by alerting you to the danger before it is too late. It can save your family as well if someone suspicious is around.
