How To Make A Free Wood Soap Cutter
This is a very simple soap cutter made from scrap wood and gives you perfect 1 inch thick bars of soap every time.
For those of you who make soap at home this is a very simple project that makes cutting your bars of soap easy.
I have been making soap for many years now but have always used it for myself or given it way. So it did not matter if I hand cut the soap and it was not perfect.
But for commercial sales of homemade soap you will need a soap cutting form to aid in getting the perfect thickness every time.
I made my soap cutting form wider so that I can always put in larger bars of soap. I often use a silicone bread form which tapers on the top, making it wider there.
I want to keep my options open. And also some of the soap cutters out there are too tight to slide your bar of soap through easily.
I wanted to have room to slide the soap no matter how wide.
The exact dimensions of your soap cutter do not matter except for the notches for cutting the soap bars.
I made mine between 3.5 and 4 inches wide on the base. The length is about 14 inches. The height is about 3 inches.
The height is the only part that you must watch for because you want the side walls higher than the bar of soap you want to cut. The slits in the sides will guide your knife evenly through the soap.
To make the slits I used the table saw first and then assembled the soap cutting form. Then I finished the cuts through with a backsaw. I cut a little bit deeper into the base to allow my knife to pass through the soap and into the base a bit.
All I needed on the front end was a piece of wood to stop the soap from sliding forward at the right point.
Now I can slide a bar of soap into the cutter and push it forward until it stops. Then I can slide a knife through the soap, making a perfect one inch thick bar.
