The Psychology of Persuasion
I believe everyone should understand Cialdini’s six principles of persuasion, and I'll explain why in this video.
Cialdini described six 'principles of persuasion' and makes the point that being persuaded is not necessarily a bad thing in itself (for example something as trivial as wearing a seatbelt takes a degree of persuasion, at one stage of our lives).
I'll talk more about Cialdini's six principles of persuasion, and the psychology of persuasion, and why we need to safeguard ourselves against something which on the surface seems to offer the fulfillment of one of our emotional needs, when in fact someone is only doing so as an attempt to influence you to give something much more in return.
Quick reference points: Cialdini's 6 principles of persuasion:
1. Reciprocity (2:03)
2. Self-consistency (3:29)
3. Social proof (5:57)
4. Perceived authority (6:48)
5. Likeability (7:43)
6. Scarcity (8:41)
