兵马俑就是秦始皇兵马俑，是古代墓葬雕塑的一个类别。
古代实行人殉，奴隶是奴隶主生前的附属品，奴隶主死后奴隶要作为殉葬品为奴隶主陪葬。兵马俑就是制成兵马形状的殉葬品。
兵马俑位于今陕西省西安市临潼区秦始皇陵以东1.5千米处的兵马俑坑内。
它的塑造，基本上以现实生活为基础，手法细腻、明快，所有的秦俑面容中都流露出秦人独有的威严与从容，具有鲜明的个性和强烈的时代特征。
兵马俑既继承了战国以来中国的陶塑传统，又为唐代塑造艺术的繁荣奠定了基础，起着承上启下的作用，被誉为“世界第八大奇迹”以及“人类古代精神文明的瑰宝”。
