All in the Family Cast Then and Now (1971 to 2020)

All in the Family was inarguably one of the biggest shows of the '70s, running from 1971 to 1979. Throughout its 9-season run, it introduced a lot of new ideas to the sitcom format while entertaining audiences with a diverse and wildly entertaining cast. Today, we're taking a look at the All in the Family cast, then and now!

Starting with Carroll O'Connor, the legendary actor who portrayed Archie Bunker, you may know that he passed back in 2001. He was barely into his older years at this point, but that didn't stop him from leaving his mark on television before he left. After All in the Family, he starred in the spin-off Archie Bunker's Place, and enjoyed a myriad of other roles, as well.

Jean Stapleton played Edith Bunker, who also led quite a respectable career. She was fairly active through the early 2000s, appearing in television and movies and even getting inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame. Sadly, she passed in 2013.

Rob Reiner has made a name for himself as a legendary director in television. Although his career was definitely at its peak during the 70s and 80s, he is happily living today as a father and grandfather.

Sally Struthers is the beautiful actress who portrayed Gloria. This became her biggest role, and the one many people know her for. Although she is still active to this day, she's not in the spotlight quite as much as she was on All in the Family. Fortunately, she still enjoys her work and lives a fulfilling life.

Betty Garrett played Irene Lorenzo, neighbor to the Bunkers. Garrett had a long history of acting on both stage and television, and also enjoyed a substantial role on Laverne and Shirley. Her significant career continued well into the 2000s, until she sadly passed in 2011.

Danielle Brisebois played Stephanie Mills, Edith's niece on All in the Family. After the show, she gave up acting to pursue music. Although she never became a huge star herself, she had the pleasure of working with some of the biggest names in music like Alanis Morissette and Natasha Bedingfield.

Sherman Hemsley played George Jefferson, and made a big enough splash to get his own spin-off, called The Jeffersons. While not on screen, however, he lived a very secluded life. After his time on these shows, he kept out of the public eye. He passed in 2012.

Isabel Sanford played Louise Jefferson, George's wife. With Sherman Hemsley, she enjoyed a successful career both on All in the Family and The Jeffersons. Afterwards, she continued to appear in guest spots on TV until her passing in 2004.

Michael Evans played Lionel Jefferson, the last member of the Jefferson family. While he also shared the career growth of this show, he continued to dabble in other television series and even in real estate. Sadly, he passed away at the young age of 57.

Jason Wingreen played Harry Snowden, but this wasn't his only television appearance. From Seinfeld to The Star Wars films, Jason Wingreen made appearances in some of the most famous productions of all time. Sadly, he passed away in 2015.
