Cuba 2015 - UCLA Alumni Travel
The first UCLA Alumni Travel group to visit Cuba since the Obama Administration announced plans to improve relations with the Cuban government. At this point in time, Raul Castro runs the country, Americans must still use cash (CUCs), cannot use their own mobile phones, visas into the country are still restricted, the embargo has not changed, and Cuba is very far from being able to support an influx of tourism. Because of the restrictions and because this tour was booked prior to the US-Cuba announcement, the itinerary was very full. Our local, Cuban guide, Nelson, was exceptional--truly the reason the trip stands out as one of the most memorable and educational experiences of my life. It would be difficult to appreciate Cuba, it's history, and people without having such a great guide.
Much of the tour was spent walking the streets and taking a tour bus to meet and see some of the people, museums, and landmarks. The first part of the tour was 5 days in Havana followed by 2 days in Trinidad with a stop to Cienfuegos on the way. Also on the itinerary were two talks by professors of the university in Havana (given in the hotel MPR) and a talk from the US representative in Cuba (the US does not have an embassy at this time but representatives have been in Cuba since the 70s).
The band you see throughout this video is only known by the label on their CD, which I'm not sure is an actual band name.
For those interested, video was shot on a few different cameras: GoPro Hero4 Black in 1080p, Canon G12 in 720p, and the Nikon D800 in 1080p. All photo stills were shot on the Nikon.
