Swiss Railway Journeys - GFM - The Fribourg Railways

Ride with us through luxuriant Swiss countryside along the metre gauge tracks of the Fribourg Railways. Our Springtime journey begins at Palézieux, the line to Bulle winding through rolling farmland fringed by snow-capped mountains.

We pause to view the workshops and learn something of the history of this interesting company. It has a great variety of rolling stock and we see their vintage electric Retro-Train in action as well as more modern sets.

At Bulle we pause to look around the lovely old town, before making a diversion along the branch line to Broc-Fabrique. Here we take the rare opportunity to visit the heart of the Nestlé chocolate factory, where some of Switzerland's world famous confectionery is made.

We resume our journey to Montbovon, pausing along the way to stroll around the medieval walled hill town of Gruyères, once the most important settlement of the region, which not only gives its name to the area, but also to one of Switzerland's best known cheeses.

Journey's end is at Montbovon, where the GFM makes a connection with the MOB railway, providing travellers with the opportunity of extending their journey through more of picturesque Switzerland.
