2022 Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Gala – Mission Moment

Children’s Hospital Los Angeles means so much to so many people—and especially to the parents of Nathan Shalon. Nathan was diagnosed with cancer—an undifferentiated sarcoma—at 17 months of age. Then at age 4, Nathan was diagnosed with a second type of cancer—Ewing Sarcoma. Leo Mascarenhas, MD, MS, and James Stein, MD, MSc, FACS, FAAP, led the care team that saved Nathan’s life, and his parents are eternally grateful. Their story was featured at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Gala on Oct. 8, 2022 at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. Entertainer Michael Bublé’s son was also cared for by Dr. Mascarenhas and Dr. Stein when he was diagnosed with liver cancer, and Bublé shared a video message of thanks for his son’s recovery.
