Snowy days in Old Godthåb (Exploring Nuuk's Historic Colonial Harbour district) | Greenland 🇬🇱

Nuuk's Colonial Harbour is one of the best-preserved old town historic districts in Greenland. It was here that in 1728 the city of Nuuk was founded by the royal governor Claus Paarss, who relocated the colonial settlement of Hope Colony (founded by Lutheran missionary and merchant Hans Egede) from Kangeq Island to the mainland.

Centuries later, you'll find plenty of historic 18th and 19th century buildings in pristine condition, edged up against the rocky coastline of the Atlantic Ocean. Walking down its cobblestone pathways was one of the highlights of my short visit to Greenland's capital, admiring the unassuming Church of Our Saviour, adjacent parish houses, workshops, and settler homes that marked the beginning of what would become one of the fastest growing cities in the Arctic region.

After visiting the old town area, I check out the impressive Mother of the Sea statue of the mythical Sedna, and enjoy a muskox steak lunch at the local Bones Cafe. Other highlights of this video include a visit to the Anori Art Gallery & checking out the city's coffee scene at Cafe Pascucci.
