Abstract

It’s a challenge to engage a fine wire, i.e. .014 copper NiTi wires, into brackets in the crowded posterior molar area. This clinical tip is to demonstrate how to apply heat treatment to wire tails to facilitate engagement in the posterior crowed area.

1. Measure and leave about a 1cm of tail end before engaging the wire.
2. Apply heat treatment to a 2-3 mm length of tail end and then place the wire into brackets, leaving a 2-3mm of pigtail.  
3. Disengage the wire and repeat the heat treatment to the tail end at 2-3 mm. After engagement, bend the end 900 with a wine guard.
 
Notice that heat-treatment should only be applied to the section of wires outside of brackets to retain the shape-memory quality of copper NiTi wires.

在後牙擁擠的區域，特別是大臼齒，因為空間不足，放線就更加困難。這個臨床小技巧是分享如何更輕鬆的把細軟線，如.014 copper NiTi，放入擁擠的空間：

1.在口外比量，將尾線大致預留比原本牙弓長1cm。
2.燒紅尾端3mm，讓線較容易放入後牙矯正器內。之後將線尾剪至比牙弓長2-3mm。
3.將線拿出矯正器，並將尾線2-3mm處用打火機燒彎，再放回口內矯正
器中，最後在口內將尾線用wineguard彎折90度。

要特別注意線加熱的區域只能在矯正器範圍之外，矯正器內及轉折處絕對不能加熱，以免破壞copper NiTi線原有的記憶特性，才讓牙齒能藉由線材的特性伸展，達到排列整齊的效果。
