Big Things Have Small Beginnings - Part 3

In this video, we run out some of the drift levels that we passed by on our descent to the bottom of this gold mine (well, as close as we could get to the bottom on that first visit). This is followed by the footage from a recon visit (checking on the water levels) where it was possible to follow out that drift where we stopped last time. On our initial visit, we had thought that it was caved, but didn’t have the proper equipment to really do a proper examination.

On this return visit, the water was down and so it was possible to follow the drift to the right - all the way to the caved portal. Following the drift to the right revealed some interesting artifacts and proved that this was a main haulage adit (as we had initially suspected).

Jake mentioned in his footage that this was their third visit… That is correct. We did a second visit to see if the water had dropped at all, but it had not. There was nothing new to show, so none of us recorded anything.

As I keep alluding to, it is our fourth visit where we really run down all of the mysteries…

How did you like that quartz ballroom with all of the mineralization around it? It is hard to imagine that it wouldn’t be possible to profitably mine that in this day and age.

Several kind viewers have asked about donating to help cover some of the many expenses associated with exploring these abandoned mines. Inspired by their generosity, I set up a Patreon account. So, if anyone would care to chip in, I’m under TVR Exploring on Patreon.

Thanks for watching!

Growing up in California’s “Gold Rush Country” made it easy to take all of the history around us for granted. However, abandoned mine sites have a lot working against them – nature, vandals, scrappers and various government agencies… The old prospectors and miners that used to roam our lonely mountains and toil away deep underground are disappearing quickly as well.

These losses finally caught our attention and we felt compelled to make an effort to document as many of the ghost towns and abandoned mines that we could before that colorful niche of our history is gone forever.
I hope you’ll join us on these adventures!
