Bringing An Abandoned Gold Mine Back To Life: Part 19 of ?

Winter may be receding, but it is still cold on the mountain. A somewhat pleasant day or two at the gold mine will be followed by a week or two of freezing winds and even snow still! This was a long winter and it seems like it is fighting hard to live on for as long as possible. We have seen no sign of the squirrels yet. I hope they made it through this winter.

Speaking of life and making it…

As some of you know, I worked as a war journalist for about a decade. Therefore, I’m no stranger to seeing pictures or video of people that I knew before they were killed. However, it still has an impact on me every time. It’s difficult for me to articulate, but there’s something poignant about the images that don’t seem significant at the time, but take on so much significance later when you look back and realize that you were seeing the final days or moments of someone…

I mentioned to a friend that I had come across footage of Matt when I was working on this video. He responded in a half-joking fashion that I should sensationalize the thumbnail to something like “RIP Matt – His Final Days” or some other clickbaity nonsense because other big YouTube channels would. I realized that he was right, but it had never even occurred to me to do that… And I won’t do that. I’m not saying that I am a saint, but I am weary of the self-promotion and clickbait that seems to have infected the mine exploring community on YouTube over the past couple of years.

Several kind viewers have asked about donating to help cover some of the many expenses associated with exploring these abandoned mines. Inspired by their generosity, I set up a Patreon account. So, if anyone would care to chip in, I’m under TVR Exploring on Patreon.

Thanks for watching!

Growing up in California’s “Gold Rush Country” made it easy to take all of the history around us for granted. However, abandoned mine sites have a lot working against them – nature, vandals, scrappers and various government agencies… The old prospectors and miners that used to roam our lonely mountains and toil away deep underground are disappearing quickly as well.

These losses finally caught our attention and we felt compelled to make an effort to document as many of the ghost towns and abandoned mines that we could before that colorful niche of our history is gone forever.
I hope you’ll join us on these adventures!
