Venezuela's humanitarian crisis and power battle 2019

Venezuelans are slowly starving to death as Maduro and Guaido battle for power. The situation has been worsening for years, but it came to a head in January when the head of the opposition-held National Assembly, Mr Juan Guiado, declared himself president -- something that is allowed under the country's constitution.

However, an attempted uprising to force incumbent President Nicholas Maduro to exit failed on April 30th. Venezuela now has the highest inflation in the world. People can't afford enough food, the health system has all but collapsed and almost 4 million people have fled the country. It is a disaster.
