Our cabin build project 4 years in the making in the Canadian Rockies, located in the beautiful Blaeberry Valley, a 25mn drive just outside the town of Golden in British Columbia.

This vlog will showcase how our love for the Canadian Rocky mountains led to the purchase of a 5-acre property and subsequent house construction project that took 4 years to research, plan, design and build, all whilst living in Australia and managing all this with our builder in Canada via the internet due to international travel restrictions during the pandemic.

• 2018 – Initial Real Estate market research ideas for a possible investment venture around the Canadian Rockies whilst on holidays in the region and internet research thereafter.

• 2019 – Contact via email potential land parcels for sale and builders. Met with Justin, the Winton Homes rep (and our future builder later) in July 2019 who showed us a few potential properties for sale and ideas whilst in Golden for a few days. We also met the owners of ‘Younger Estates’ we contacted via their website a few weeks earlier whom we purchased the land from a few months later.

• 2020 – Settled on a 5-acre parcel in January 2020. Started the building design and planning with Winton Homes whom we chose as our preferred choice of construction a few weeks later and contacted Justin from Horizon Unlimited as our general contractor and builder (and Winton Homes rep) who we met in July 2019 and instructed him with the building project management not being able to travel or be there then for mission-critical dates and deadlines to be met.

• 2021 – Final design and planning for the cabin achieved in the first half of 2021. Site survey and house location chosen. Construction started on August 16th, 2021, and is to be finalised by May 18th, 2022, when we are to arrive in Golden and take possession of our cabin.
