Schoolchildren go medieval at Ely Cathedral! | Vlog 58

The workshops for my project with Ely Cathedral and the Britten Sinfonia are underway! Over a hundred children descended on Ely Cathedral for a day to learn about the Anglo-Saxon history of the first Ely Abbey, and discover what it was like to be a Benedictine monk in Ely, before learning some simple plainchant with me in the afternoon. Over 250 Cambridgeshire schoolchildren will join Ely Cathedral boy and girl choristers, Cathedral organists, professional orchestral musicians from the Britten Sinfonia, and Cathedral clergy and altar servers at Ely Cathedral on 22 June 2020 to give the first performance of Ad orientem: An Ely Liturgy by James Olsen.

The project will give hundreds of young people in the Ely/Cambridgeshire area an opportunity to perform alongside outstanding musicians in a unique venue, as well as introducing them to aspects of local history and music through educational workshops.

We have received over £21,000 to fund the project but still need to raise the last few hundred pounds to ensure that we can fully cover our costs.

We therefore ask you please to consider donating to support this project. From as little as £10, you can be a patron of the commission and your name will appear in the published score.
