Japan became the fifth country to successfully put a spacecraft on the Moon.
The lunar spacecraft landed, facing the wrong way after one of its engines failed during landing. This means that its solar cells couldn’t generate electricity and had to rely on a limited internal battery power. To preserve power, it had to go through cycles of hibernation.
