Space X 'growing up' following successful launch of SXM7 satellite

ANU Cosmologist Dr Brad Tucker says Space X is ‘growing up’ following the successful launch of a Falcon 9 rocket carrying a 68,000-kilogram satellite for Sirius XM radio.

“It was a great successful launch, like many times they nailed the landing which is the key to Space X, that rocket booster coming back down and landing so it could be reused,” Mr Tucker said.

This comes just four days after Space X's steel rocket prototype crashed during an attempted landing in Texas.

“One of the successes of Space X is they get back right on it and they have so many different projects in the pipeline,” Mr Tucker told Sky News.

“They kind of have their workhorse which is the Falcon 9…and then they have…their prototypes for the next generation.

“Space X is proving that they can not only do the things that they already know how to do reliably…but then they can also at the same time look at the next generation.

“I think that’s what is keeping them on top of their game…doing both in parallel and not just being stagnant in one area”.
