‘Learn their lesson’: Big tech scrutinised over ‘appalling’ data harvesting
Former Liberal MP Nicolle Flint says big tech companies must “learn their lesson” as Australia launches probe into TikTok data harvesting.
“I think this is appalling – the government needs to act very, very quickly to protect Australians,” Ms Flint said.
“We need to see financial implications for the likes of TikTok – big tech, whoever they are, need to learn their lesson.”
Chinese conglomerate, ByteDance, which owns the video-sharing platform has denied it violated Australian privacy laws.
Earlier this year, TikTok’s head of data security Will Farell admitted TikTok employees in China can access Australian user data, but on a ‘very strict basis’.
