Bureau of Meteorology slammed over failures to warn Australians adequately of storms

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate has criticised the Bureau of Meteorology for failing to warn people of the storm which destroyed houses and left “60,000” homes without power, Sky News host James Macpherson says.

“Without power – when it hit on Christmas night,” Mr Macpherson said.

“He says the bureau sent people communication at 9pm warning that a wild storm would hit the Gold Coast at 8:45pm.

“This comes just days after the Bureau received criticism for failing to predict flooding in Cairns as a result of Cyclone Jasper.

“A lot of people find it difficult to understand how the Bureau can warn of sea level rises 100 years from now but not a storm or flooding, 24 hours in advance.”
