An Old Kitchen Garden Tour

This part walled area of the garden was originally the back farm or stable yard, and in areas, around 18-inches,s down there is still a confluent layer of flint pebbles that formed the courtyard surface. Over the years it has been used as a vegetable and fruit garden and more recently as a cutting and herb garden. To the west remains a row of fruit trees, mainly apples, not that old, probably planted in the 1980s.
Recent building work to the barn which forms the southern boundary to the garden has required extensive groundworks including surface water and grey water drains being relaid together with power cable ducts and wires for the new wastewater treatment plant, and a return power cable runs from the 90 solar panels soon to be fitted in an adjacent paddock.
All this work necessitated and gave the opportunity for a redesign and what we show you here is the partially finished garden with new gravel pathways and edging, still recovering after the diggers left the site approximately 8 weeks ago.
