Mini Lathe tailstock lever clamping modification - Part 2
First part of the lever clamping modification: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSeOPH_Y_rM
This is the second part of the lever clamping modification on the Mini Lathes tailstock. I made a camlock clamping mechanism to clamp the tailstock firmly to the lathe bed without needing a wrench every time.
In the first part I made the large clamping t-nut and installed some bushings to the casting. In this second part I make all parts for the camlock mechanism, redo the casting, paint it and finally reassemble everything.
All the steel parts made in this video are from 42crmo4 tool steel, which is hopefully sturdy enough for this purpose. It machines surpringly well on this little machine and can be turned to quite tight tolerances.
As I had to repaint the tailstock casting anyway, I decided to round its sharp edges a little bit to let it look a bit more pleasant.
All in all - besides the huge effort - everything turned out pretty well and the result is pretty satifying. The new clamping works really well.
Unfortunately one thing is to be done in the future: the lathe bed is not the same thickness over its length which result in an uneven clamping pressure/position when tightening the tailstock. I have to grind the underside of the bedway to equal size in the future.
If you have questions or suggestions, please let me know in the comments. I'll read them all and try to reply to everyone.

Keep in mind, due to very limited resources, I have to improvise a lot and go unconvenient ways which may upset some of the "real machinists" out here. Hope - with some creativity - in the end come to good resoults anyway.
