John Paul Bobo, 2nd Lt. US Marine Corp Reserve, Medal of Honor Recipient

Born in Niagara Falls, NY, John Bobo was killed at the age of 24 in Vietnam on March 30, 1967. He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for "conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty..." He had a class of ships named after him, the 2nd Lt. John P. Bobo Class, which included three ships in the US Navy's Marine Prepositioning Fleet. He is buried in Gates of Heaven Cemetery in Lewiston, NY.

In this video, filmed on May 20, 2020 to commemorate Memorial Day, our Director of Collections, Shane Stephenson, discusses 2nd Lt. John P. Bobo's sacrifice and highlights photographs and the Medal of Honor citation for his actions, all of which are on display at the Buffalo Naval & Military Park's Museum.
