Exploring Lunar Crater, in Nevada
In this video, I explore "Lunar Crater" in Nevada, which is located in the Great Basin on the southern edge of the Pancake Range. At more than 80 miles from the nearest town, you can definitely feel a unique sense of isolation.
The crater is over 430' deep and covers more than 400 acres. This site however was not the result of a meteor impact, but is instead referred to as a "maar" - The result of molten lava coming into contact with groundwater.
This crater was also used by NASA in 1972 as a "Terrestrial Analog Site", which prepared astronauts for the Apollo moon missions. It even served as a practice range for rovers.
