Roads Hotel: A Brothel, A Speakeasy, A Hiding Spot, and yes... A Hotel

Atlanta is tucked away in the Indiana countryside and is a peaceful, small rural town which dates back to the 1830’s. In a lot of ways, my visit felt like a journey back in time and made me grateful to experience it. It is a place where people are respectful and know each others names. Kids ride their bikes in the streets and play without a care in the world. It made me say to myself, “gosh I wish my kids could experience this kind of carefree existence.” And I love the sign as you enter town: “Welcome To Atlanta | 750 Friendly People… And A Few Soreheads”.

The Roads Hotel, was built in 1893 and said to have a very diverse past as a hotel, brothel and even a speakeasy. Infamous guests such as Al Capone, John Dillinger and others are rumored to have been guests here.

I am a member of the Paranormal Task Force and had an opportunity to stay here for an overnight investigation. What quickly became apparent that night is that shadows seemed to catch peoples eyes, including my own. The thing that stands out to me was being in the bedroom at the end of the hall… I swore I detected a shadow out of the corner of my eye, but did not say anything. Seconds later, the ladies at the end of the hall near the stairs shouted that they saw a shadow move quickly past them and down the stairs. This seemed to happen several times throughout the night but there were other things that were very interesting as well such as unexplained noises and even a 20 degree rapid temperature change that was caught on the FLIR device.
