The Pythian Castle: Springfield Missouri

This is a short time-lapse of The Pythian Castle in Springfield Missouri.

Built in 1913, it was originally used as an orphanage by the Knights of Pythias and also served as a meeting hall for the group. In 1942 it was commandeered buy the US military and renamed the "Enlisted Men's Service Club" where it served as a general hospital to help rehabilitate injured America troops from WWII. At that time, the property featured a bowling alley, library and pool hall, but there was also another surprise – This location also served as a prisoner of war facility and housed high-ranking Germans, Japanese and Italian prisoners. There are prison cells and interrogation rooms in the basement, as well as the guard house.

In 1947 the facility became a Tubercular hospital that served about 500. Today the castle is a privately owned home where it is rented out for many events such as weddings, parties, murder mysteries and even Ghost Tours – After all… It is said that the facility has a very active paranormal presence!
