The Progress Report - January 2021

In this video -- I talk about how it's going with each of the 8 pens and inks I'm using this month! If there's enough interest, I will do this each month (about mid-month) so that we can really take a deeper dive into the specifics of how each ink does in each pen. This month is quite unique because I'm writing with 5 new pens. This rarely/never happens all in one month!
We look at the pen and the ink tile -- I do a writing sample and talk about how the combinations are working out for my writing. (SPECIAL NOTE: watch for it .... I finally figured out how to add text to my video! Geez ... that was easy ... if at first you do not succeed ... try try again!)
Here is a list of the pens and inks in the video:
1. TWSBI Vac700R Iris (B) from pen friend P.T. with Bungubox l'Amant introduced to me by pen friend B.H. years ago.
PROGRESS: at first I thought this pen would be too much of a hand full for me but once I got going and learned to loosen the end knob -- it is now writing great and very consistently!
2. Opus 88 - Koloro - Red (M) from pen friend M.B. with Robert Oster Antelope Canyon a Pen Chalet Exclusive ink also from M.B.
PROGRESS: I'm still working at getting an even ink flow with this pen/ink combo .... the nib is super smooth and I love the pen ... I do notice a drastic ink flow reduction (even with the knob turned open) after a paragraph. I blame this on operator error and possibly the ink/pen combo.
3. Lamy Vista (B) with Diamine Kelly Green ink sample from pen friend M.A.
PROGRESS: Excellent combo - I'm 100% familiar with this pen so only the ink is new to me -- it's very pretty and flows great in the Lamy B nib.
4. Ferris Wheel Press Brush Pen - Spring Violet (F) a mix up in shipping my gift card order which resulted in me getting this beautiful pen by accident - with Rohrer & Klingner Cassia original sample from pen friend B.H.
PROGRESS: I've smoothed all the feedback out of this nib and made it a wetter writer -- it's excellent with the R/K Cassia ink and I expect it will be a great journal pen -- it is so far.
5. Nooder's Ahab in King Philip Purple with M non-flex Noodler's nib - a gift from Manuel with Noodler's King Philip Requiem ink which I bought in a 16 ounce bottle earlier this year to commemorate 3 years on You Tube and to remember pen friend Christene who passed away from cancer a couple of years ago. She wrote with this ink often and it only gets produced every now and then so that's why I purchased the giant bottle in 2020.
PROGRESS: the Noodler's King Philip Requiem in this pen is quite a firehose which would be great except it bleeds thru almost all paper in this nib. NOTE: after a few minutes it did bleed thru the 68 gsm paper -- not onto the next page or anything but heavy seepage to the back of the page! I think a less saturated ink would do great in this flowy nib! I've almost used the fill and I plan to re-ink with a Diamine ink next.
6. TWSBI Eco Rose Gold and white (1.1 stub) with Pure Pens Porthcurno Cave ink sample from pen friend A.W. part of the Celtic set from Pure Pens.
PROGRESS: this ink doesn't flow the way Diamine Aqua Lagoon did. The difference is rather drastic except for the first 2 lines which do come out pretty nice while the feed is still saturated from sitting still. So, I'm thinking this nib needs the flowy inks --- of course I have not worked with this ink much so it could also be dry but I have no evidence of that at this point.
7. Lamy Al-Star Vibrant Pink - B nib - nib from pen friend M.H. - with DeAtramentis Purple Violet (recommended by a viewer) Such a vibrant beautiful purple.
PROGRESS: this combo is great! The ink flows very smoothly and the ink color is beautiful -- I'd be buying a bottle if I wasn't overstocked on bottles of purple ink!!!!
8. Kaweco Liliput - Fire Blue (M) pen from pen friend S.B. with a Kaweco Midnight Blue cartridge.
PROGRESS: This combo is great - very nice for my notebooks - no bleed thru. The only issue is that I am a bit impatient with the screw to post feature. It just slows me down a bit though ... the pen is beautiful and it is a smooth even writer.
NOTE: Final report card will be shared at the end of the Chris' Inked Pens February edition coming in a few weeks.
