Jamaican Soy Patties Step by Step Tutorial || How To Make Jamaican Patties
**Crust Ingredients**
2 1/2 cups unbleached all purpose flour
1/2 cup vegan butter ( You can use vegetable shortening as well). Plus a few tbsp more butter to achieve those layers.
3 tsp turmeric
1 Tsp annatto powder
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp brown sugar
3/4 cup ice cold water
( Can use a gloves to kneed to provent the turmeric from staining your fingers)
**Green Seasoning**
A handful of fresh Italian parsley
A handful of fresh cilantro
6 garlic
1/2 medium white onion
4 stalk scallion
Few sprigs thyme leaves only
1/2 scotch bonnet pepper without seeds
1/2 large green bell pepper
1-2 tsp oil
( You can add more or less of these Ingredients)
** Filling**
1/2 pack Lion of Judah soya / veggie chunks (soaked in warm water for at least 15 minutes).
2 spoonfuls green seasoning
Sazon all purpose seasoning
2 vegetable bouillon cube
1/2 tsp allspice
1 tsp browning
Onion powder
Garlic powder
1/4 tsp black pepper
Smoked paprika ( I ended up using about 1/2 tsp old bay seasoning aswell just to get that celery flavor)
**Ketchup mixture**
3 tbsp ketchup
1 1/2 cups water
1 tsp agave nectar (can use sugar aswell)
** This recipe is not just limited to a soy filling, you can use other filling such as mushroom, lentils, ackee, or vegetable (callaloo or cabbage).
** Also use all purpose seasoning you like and seasoning to you liking).
I’ve made Patty multiple times and although the flavor was there I was unable to achieve that flaky crust. However this recipe is definitely a hit because as you can tell I did achieve that flaky crust 🙌🏾. I am not an expert, However I am super proud of myself. I would be even more proud if you all try this recipe and attain the same result.
This is once in a blue moon type recipe, I am a true believer in that everything in moderation. So give this recipes a try and I truly hope you all enjoy it.
